P6  Mrs Saunders

Our inter-disciplinary science topic last term was the Human Body. We investigated the skeletal, circulatory and muscular systems in detail and also touched on the digestive and respiratory systems. Fun was had when we carried out tests to see who could roll their tongue or wink with both eyes to link inheritance to our topic.
There is a whole school focus on a country for social studies this term. Our theme will be France. We shall be investigating French landscape, culture, food, arts, history and entertainment and comparing any similarities or differences to our own experiences. As this is a whole school focus we shall be learning a French related song for presentation at the school show in June.

For reading new novels have been issued and we shall continue to use and practice Active Literacy strategies to investigate text. Please note children should continue to bring in their novel every day and practice the set reading at home. Spelling will be a weekly part of homework and children can choose from the follow up list of activities to practice phonemes at home.
Writing will focus on discursive themes as well as continuing imaginative writing with a focus on description of character, setting and applying core targets.

This is a very busy term for our Maths topics. Not only will we be continuing (and indeed extending) with Big Maths, we shall also be working with shape, information handling, angle, negative numbers, probability as well as keeping up with ongoing calculation work and problem solving. Homework will normally be follow up work covering these subjects when we address them.

Our P.E. will continue on Tuesday afternoons with Mrs. Marks and we will also be carrying on with the swimming block on Thursday afternoons.
Sustainability will be looked at in relation to our commitment to ECO matters and we shall be encouraging and promoting saving energy.
This term will also have lessons on RSHP and permission letters will be issued prior to participation in lessons.
