The children have really enjoyed learning all about space and the solar system. We all had a great time learning about the planets, sun and moon. We can all remember the order of the planets thanks to a funny mnemonic. The children also learned about the first man on the moon and designed their own planet. The trip to the science centre was great as we got to watch a 3D film all about living in the space station and looking at earth from space

This term the whole school are selecting a country to study, where we will show case our learning through a whole school show. We have decided to choose our own beautiful country Scotland to study. We will be learning about all of the major cities, famous Scottish people and of course some Scottish country dancing and singing. We cannot wait to show off all of our learning!!

Within literacy this term we will be continuing to work through active literacy, learning our common and sound words, learning to recognise them and use them in our writing. We will continue with our novels, reading them both in class and at home. We will re-visit imaginative writing techniques this term and focus on poetry and letter writing. We will also be doing a "show and tell" slot each week to encourage the children to speak out in front of others and develop their presenting skills.

Our maths focus this term is on fractions, time and position and movement. The children should continue to practise their times tables at home. We will also be looking at money and measure this term. We are continuing to work on Big Maths where the children are learning about numbers and how they are used, revising number bonds in order to improve mental math strategies. This has improved the children’s confidence when working with numbers and we hope this continues.

Gym days are still a Monday (children are reminded to bring a full PE kit and a letter if they are not to take part for any reason). We will continue to do the daily mile throughout the week as well as the set Gym time.

Again if there are ever any issues or concerns, please feel free to get in touch to arrange a meeting or I am always at the door at 3 o’clock.
Thank you for your continued support with homework and reading, it is greatly appreciated. Homework is issued on a Wednesday and should be handed in on a Tuesday.
