P2  Miss Finnie

The boys and girls are now into the 4th term of Primary 2- Can you believe it? This year has gone by so fast!
Our Easter assembly has been and gone. I was so proud of the children as they really put on a show. The children also thoroughly enjoyed their trip to the Science centre just before the Easter holidays. They got to find out lots of information about Space and they enjoyed exploring the different exhibits.

This term Primary 2’s topic is ‘Brazil”.
The children will be learning about Brazil’s geography and lots about their culture. There will also be many opportunities for Art, ICT, Music and Dance. Primary 2 are born performers and are looking forward to being on the stage again as they take part in the school show (more details to follow).  Throughout our Topic it is planned to learn more about Brazil's geography, human and physical features, exports and culture with information about several famous Brazilian people through history
The topic is planned responsively with the children’s questions and interests at the centre leading the learning.

Phonics: This term, the children will be continuing with our Active Literacy Programme. The children will continue to read, make, blend and write words using the ‘five finger strategy’. The children will still continue to use the magnetic boards, sound stories and elkonin boxes.
Spelling: The children will learn four new common words each week with a consolidation week after 12 words have been taught. The children will have one taught lesson followed by two reciprocal teaching days and a day of assessment (dictation). They will alsocomplete multi-sensory activities each day to help with the spelling of common words.
Reading The children will be given one reading book which they will read in class and at home. The children are encouraged to read every night. In class the children will be reading with the teacher, a partner and individually. We are focusing on comprehension this term.
Writing The children will have one taught writing session each week (Wednesdays) with a particular focus on imaginative writing and poetry this term.
Please continue to practise letter formation (lowercase and uppercase) at home.
