P3  Miss Wells

I can’t quite believe we are entering into our final term of Primary 3. I am looking forward to another fun filled term ahead!
I am proud of the children’s hard work throughout term 3 and I am sure you will agree that their Paper-Mache canopic jars were very impressive!

For our final term of Primary 3 we will be exploring the country India and can’t wait for the all the exciting links to geography, technology, ICT and expressive arts. We will explore Indian landscape, human and physical features of India that influence society, Indian culture – we even aim to make our very own traditional Indian curry. The children will also create various colourful art pieces linked to the country as well as a traditional Bollywood dance – that will make up our part in the school show!!
The children will be working collaboratively to create PowerPoints to demonstrate their learning throughout.
Our writing for term 4 will focus on persuasive and explanation texts, as we continue to create exciting and detailed pieces of writing. We will also explore poetry, where the children will have the opportunity to create their own poems.
Please continue to encourage your child to read for enjoyment. This will help to increase their vocabulary, improve their comprehension and provide a rich source of inspiration for their writing!
The children have worked very hard to improve their handwriting and achieve joins in their letters. All pupils will receive a certificate to acknowledge their progress at the end of term 4.
We will be continuing with our Active Literacy programme for spelling and reading. The children are progressing well through the banded books and enjoying the active spelling tasks. Children should practise reading their books every night to improve fluency when reading aloud in class. Please remember that if any books go missing we will be unable to issue a new one until a £5 fee is paid.
Primary 3 will continue to use our Big Maths programme to improve our mental maths – helping to increase the children’s confidence in adding/ subtracting and multiplying mentally. This will provide great support for the children when working with larger numbers in mathematics. We will also develop our knowledge of basic division facts and fractions. In other areas of maths, there will be a focus on time and measure where the children will have the opportunity to engage in various problem solving activities and active maths sessions.

There are a number of useful websites in which you can help support your child with many areas of their number work, these include:
www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize      http://www.topmarks.co.uk/Interactive.aspx?cat=12      http://www.primaryhomeworkhelp.co.uk/maths/
Primary 3 will continue to have P.E on a Monday with Mrs Gordon, where they will be developing their Athletic skills. Please ensure your child brings their P.E kit and suitable indoor shoes every Monday. The children are also encouraged to bring a bottle of water to school every day. In Health and Wellbeing, we will be exploring the differences between males and females (including gender stereotypes) and differentiation between living and non-living things.

Remember to keep checking our class blog (accessed from top right hand corner of our class page) for any updates on what we have been learning in class.
